The project’s goal is to demonstrate the scalability of the AI solutions provided by the Smart Hospital Care Pathway Engine to different types of healthcare uses.

AICCELERATE set an important challenge: using Artificial Intelligence to boost hospital care to the future. Healthcare systems currently lack flexible AI solutions that allow hospitals to improve efficiency and the quality of patient care. Current solutions provide limited scalability and are confined to isolated applications. Scalable models that address data sharing, integration, privacy, and ethics are needed to ensure better adoption of AI in healthcare.

Over the past year, the five clinical partners worked hard to produce the Functional Requirements specifications. These aim to describe the core practical challenges with the implementation and recognize opportunities, which form the basis of the Smart Hospital Care Pathway Engine AI solution development.

During that phase, there was a continuous dialogue between the partners, and the open exchange of ideas ensured that the expected system functionalities, specified in user needs and user stories, can be translated into software solutions in the next stage of the project. Based on the functional specification documentation, the technical partners of the consortium are defining detailed technical requirements to create solutions to meet the needs of all three pilots.

Now, our partners are developing and validating a toolset: the Data Extraction Suite, which will provide a collaborative environment for data scientists, engineers, and clinical experts to define and manage reusable features and datasets from those features over FHIR-based data models for AI problems.

We trust in Artificial Intelligence to support healthcare services, and very soon these pilots will be implemented to improve the care pathways of thousands of patients across Europe.
