The Reference Architecture Model (RAM) of the OPEN DEI consortium partner International Data Spaces (IDS) Association focuses on data sovereignty and data ecosystems, allowing organizations to exchange and share datasets in a secure and controlled way. Just like one of the OPEN DEI action lines does. Some of the features of blockchain technology are consistent with the features of the IDS-RAM. This makes it highly interesting to explore how blockchain technology could be adopted to play an integral part in future versions of the IDS-RAM. The position paper “Blockchain Technology in IDS” discusses possible usage scenarios of blockchain technology within the IDS concept. This is illustrated by several use cases from the IDS ecosystem combining the power of IDS and blockchain technology features.
